Mom & Me 28 Day Art Challenge Days 1-5
One of the highlights of the quarantine for me has been connecting with my mom who lives in California over our drawings for the “28 Day Art Challenge.” We are both artists of various mediums who have fallen out of the habit of daily drawing, so receiving daily prompts has been the perfect way for us to start up again! Here are our first 5 days!
Day 1: Things Found Under Your Bed! What's under there? Make a drawing of all things, both real and fictional, that could live under your bed.
Mom’s Day 1: Inspired by the Borrowers series she read as a child, about little people who lived under the floorboards
My Day 1: Inspired by my boyfriend’s whimsical room and love of reptiles and amphibians
Day 2: One (or a few!) of your house plants! Don't have any? Make one up, or look out your window and draw a plant you see outside!
Mom’s Day 2: My mom has always loved plants and was gifted the green thumb of the family!
My day 2: Meanwhile I’m just happy my one hanging plant has survived the past few months!
Day 3: Yourself! Whether you look in the mirror, draw from a photo, or work from memory, spend one full hour drawing your self portrait.
Mom’s Day 3: This one made me laugh— teeth are hard!
My day 3: A painting of a photo of us I found last time I was home. She has always been the more positive one.
Day 4: Your favorite song! Does it take you back to a certain time? Do the lyrics illustrate a story? Maybe it's been stuck in your head for hours (or days!). Make the music come to life!
Mom’s Day 4: Secret O’ Life by James Taylor
My day 4: Our favorite karaoke duet of the past Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benetar
Day 5: DRAW: Illustrate something from your favorite book! Maybe it's a story, or a character. Or, maybe it's the place you'd most like to escape to! Make sure you share it using #BAL_Draw
Mom’s Day 5: A mutual favorite, The Secret Garden
My Day 5: Technically a play, but still a favorite! The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams
Thanks for following along on the beginning of our 28 Day Challenge journey! Now we challenge YOU to connect with your loved ones and creative friends through these fun daily exercises!
Happy sketching!
